We had snow flurries in Sandpoint today for about 4 or 5 hours! A very promising sign, can’t wait to see how much Schweitzer got!

Nothing gets you from one ski season to the next like nostalgia. Of course, every day that you spend on the mountain is a great day, but once in a while you get those days that are like little gems that you’ll remember forever. One of those times for me was a day I went skiing with my dad and uncle.
The morning was sunny and brisk, that temperature thats perfect as long as you keep moving. We got to the bottom of the quad right when the bell rang. Of course, our first run (as always) was Pend Oreille. I swear, it felt like we were skiing on silk. The runs had been groomed the night before, then on top of that there were 6 inches of powder everywhere.
Just thinking about that day makes me excited to hit the slopes again!
Remembering my first day skiing

When I was in 5th grade, my school had a ski trip to Schweitzer. So after a long morning bus ride, we were at the lodge getting fitted for our rental equipment. The first time I went down Musical Chairs it took me about 45 minutes. Thankfully I made it up the chair lift up in time for my first lesson. What took me 45 minutes the first time only took about 15 minutes during the lesson. This made me pretty sure of myself, so when two of my friends wanted me to go on a few runs with them up the quad, I didn’t think twice.
Then, we arrived at the top of No Joke… I looked over the edge and thought, “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Before I had the chance to veer to the right to go down the more gradual run, one of these supposed “friends” pushed me off the top into the run. On of my ski’s was torn off of my boot, but thankfully didn’t go too far down the hill. I was angry about getting pushed into the run, but looking back I have to admit, after a few turns I didn’t have a 2nd thought about moguls or black diamonds. I’ve been addicted to the sport ever since.

Can’t wait for the season!

It is amazing how fast Mother Nature can work. It was only a week ago when I hiked up the mountain on a fall brisk day. The hike was nice, we enjoyed seeing the orange tamarack trees on the surrounding hills. Now, 7 days later there is a nice coat of snow on the mountain! I’m SO excited for ski season. Last night I even practiced up with some virtual skiing on a friends Wii Fit system, believe me… it was fun, but no where near the experience of actually being on the mountain.
I have to say, I’m looking forward to the day that I can ski Upper and Lower Kaniksu to the Outback for a nice cup of hot chocolate!
“dishes out expansive bowls, tight tree skiing, perfect pitch, the best park in the Pacific Northwest….it has unmatched beauty.”
